STATTI CANTINE E FRANTOIO
"To interpret Calabria in a modern manner and demonstrate with pride the world-class quality of wines made from traditional Calabrian grape varieties."
This is the challenge facing the Statti brothers, Alberto and Antonio, young entrepreneurs from Lamezia Terme, whose family’s ties to their area of origin stretch back over several generations.Alberto, currently Vice President of the Italian Breeders’ Association and Antonio, a member of AGIVI, the Association of Young Italian Wine Entrepreneurs, have played a leading role in running the family’s estate since the 1990s. However, high-quality viticulture represents the main thrust of the firm’s operations. After their first few years of hard work, including grubbing up the vineyards in the less favourable areas and zoning studies in the best ones, the Statti brothers decided to begin their collaboration with Vincenzo Bambina and Nicola Centonze, young but already expert enologists from Sicily and consultants for several of Italy’s important emerging wineries. In 2004 they formulated their project for the future, geared towards making the very best wines possible from indigenous and traditional varieties, whilst conserving the environment and highlighting the qualities of the terroir of Lamezia Terme. The area where the vineyards are situated is called Setteventi because of the strong breezes that blow in from the sea and have a notable effect on its climate. These two components create an ideal microclimate, in which mildew and fungal diseases do not thrive and it is therefore possible to treat the vineyards with environment-friendly integrated control products.
